During the 16 days we’ve shut down peat extraction at Grimsås Mosse, people have really gone the extra mile♥️🌻♥️

One evening, Milee showed us the book she’d drawn and written.
Songs have been composed, and we’ve been singing along to Runo’s piano accompaniment.
We were treated to a fantastic slideshow of the actions, with Jesper as the narrator.
One evening there was an open mic night, and lots of people took to the stage to showcase their talents.

And the local kids have been showing off their cars and hanging out with us😍

Yesterday we saw the first tiny green heart-shaped leaves out on Grimsås Moor. Now, everywhere, little signs of life were shining through on the site of Neova’s destruction of the moor.

Over 100 people, of all ages, from four to 82 years old, have been halting work at the Grimsås peat mine for more than 16 days. 

We have sown 100 kilos of grass seeds and sunflower seeds across the peat mine at Grimsås, Trottargårdsmossen and Flymossen. We have sown seeds across the entire peat extraction sites and in the large piles of excavated peat.

All the ditches have been plugged. All the long, longitudinal ditches have been blocked up. All the pipes have been clogged. No water is leaving the drainage ditches. The water has risen by more than a metre in many ditches. The cranes are soaring over the bog and their wingbeats are reflected on the water’s surface as they wait to return.

All it takes is a spade, or two 😉

Adz ARRESTED for resisting the fossil fuel peat industry/Adz on remand for non-violent action against the peat mining industry

. Adz is one of the people who have stood up against the fossil fuel industry in Sweden. Day after day over the last two weeks, Adz and others have blocked peat-mining machinery and sown sunflower seeds on the peat bog to restore nature and halt emissions. The justice system continues to call for harsher measures against those trying to protect nature, humans and other species, whilst letting the real criminals – those who are killing every living thing on this planet – off the hook.

For two weeks, people such as Birgitta, Kristofer, Anton and Anki have been taking part in peaceful resistance against the fossil fuel company Neova AB. Neova’s peat extraction destroys nature, pollutes the drinking water for the residents of Grimsås and emits enormous amounts of carbon dioxide – and being able to resist this together as a community is a fantastic experience!

Neova’s response to people wanting to stop their deadly operations is to grease up machinery, wrap it in barbed wire and lay out spike strips in order to deliberately injure activists. The fossil fuel company has never shied away from using violence and is only too happy to spread lies about the people who want to stop Neova’s sabotage of the Grimsås bog.

We understand that members of Neova’s on-site staff may feel anxious during these actions, and you are very welcome to speak to us – we are people just like you. We have had several respectful conversations with on-site staff, but there are also those who choose to engage in physical confrontation with us. Peaceful resistance means always remaining calm and peaceful, both physically and verbally, even when met with the exact opposite. Our aim is to stop the machinery and the devastation it causes, and we pose no threat to staff.

As long as there are companies making money by destroying nature, harming people and completely sabotaging our future, there will be others trying to stop them from doing so. Would you like to join the peaceful resistance?

The peat industry is a fossil fuel industry. The peat industry knows that its operations are extremely harmful – to the climate, the environment and communities alike. Despite this, it is allowed to continue.

When will you have had enough? How many people must suffer and be trampled underfoot by the fossil fuel industry before you take a stand? Climate collapse is already here and urgent, and you have a choice. Join the resistance too!

Like all fossil fuel industries, the peat industry has its own lobby group. And like all fossil fuel lobby groups, they resort to underhand tactics and fiddling with the figures to mislead the public about just how harmful their industry is. It is time to shut down the peat industry.

Cornelia, aged 26, has travelled from Stavanger to take part in the protests at Grimsås bog. She also took part two years ago and talks about the stark contrast between what was then a living bog and what is now a dead peat mine. 

Extracting peat is not the same as harvesting a raw material. Peat extraction is a fossil-fuelled activity that emits many times more greenhouse gases than domestic air travel, destroys peat bogs that have taken thousands of years to form, and in doing so wipes out all life there. The curlew, the pine tit and the hairy sedge are just three of the many species losing their habitat.

Svensk Torv would have us believe that peat is vital to our food supply. That is a myth. Most of the peat is used for hobby gardening, and after all, it is not balcony gardens that keep us alive.

Peat must remain in the ground. Ban peat extraction.

We’re carrying on like this at Trottagårdsmossen; soon we’ll have sown seeds all over the peat bog!

People in the comments sections get so bloody upset that we’re out there sowing seeds – on a bog that’S SUPPOSED TO BE covered in vegetation, life and nature. 

The peat bog you see in the picture used to be a living place, and now it’s been destroyed, sabotaged by the fossil fuel company NEOVA – one of the firms that destroys life and kills people through the emissions caused by their industry.

One person dies every minute because of the climate crisis. Europe is ablaze. To all the haters in our comments sections: wake up and touch some grass – it seems you need to.

Återställ Våtmarker is extending its sowing campaigns to more peat extraction sites where the Finnish state-owned company Neova carries out peat extraction. Here we are at Trottargårdsmossen.

Last year, Trottargårdsmossen caught fire, costing Hylte Municipality 10 million. It took 77 units from various counties to put out the fire.

Living peat bogs protect against and limit forest fires. Europe is ablaze. The answer is simple: ban peat extraction.

Adz has been arrested by the police and is now in custody following several peaceful protests to stop peat extraction at Grimsås bog!

Every day we go out to Neova’s peat pits to block machinery, fill in ditches and sow seeds. If we’re arrested and released, we go out again. And again.

As the world goes up in flames and the fossil fuel companies’ criminal activities fuel the catastrophe, more and more people are choosing to follow Adz’s example and take part in peaceful resistance against the fossil fuel companies, against the system and against capitalism.

Fossil fuel companies continue to sabotage the environment, the climate and life itself. Peat is a worse source of emissions than coal, oil and gas.

Today, 12 people from Återställ Våtmarker travelled to Trottagårdsmossen in Halland – which burnt down last year – to sow seeds.

At Trottagårdsmossen, we can see what the future holds for Grimsås mosse. Neova will probably only extract peat for cultivation for as long as the contract lasts, just as at Trottagårdsmossen, even though their contract is for energy peat.

“‘This used to be a living marsh,’ says Helen Wahlgren,
founder of the organisation Återställ Våtmarker.

The activists have been advised to wear wellies. But there’s no need –
the ground is dry as the participants step onto Grimsås Marsh to
scatter organic grass seeds in protest against peat extraction in the area.
The hope is that the grass will start to grow within a week.

The first time they were here, just two years ago, there was still some
vegetation in the form of pine trees, and pools of water on the ground

. “Now it’s a brown desert,” notes activist Lior Tell Stefansson.”
