About us

We are the project to restore our Swedish wetlands.
And stop the destruction of life on Earth by those in power.

Core values

Restore Wetlands is an association of people who, through peaceful resistance, shut down destructive peat mining and restore wetlands.
Through media actions and radical demonstrations, we inform about how to create real democracy with citizens' councils and people's councils.

Read more about us below:

  • We are a non-partisan and non-religious movement.
  • We believe in the equal value of all people and therefore welcome all kinds of people to our movement.
  • We believe in a real people's government (a developed democracy based on drawing lots/citizen councils)
    • where everyone is given an equal chance to govern and to be governed,
    • where career politicians are avoided and corruption is minimised.
  • We believe that we all need to find our courage to create a better society.
  • We do our actions with love for life and for future generations.
  • Anyone who wants to fight for the future is welcome to become part of our community.

OUR KEY WORDS: Courage, Love and Community

Our vision

We want the people to decide through citizens' councils how Sweden will become a good country that cares for its people.

Through an unprecedented transition, we will achieve a society without greenhouse gas emissions and toxins, where the world's children can grow up safe and healthy.

A society built on love, where we live in harmony with nature and each other.

We are just like you

We are a peaceful movement made up of ordinary people from different backgrounds and of different ages.

Those of us involved in Restore Wetlands have ordinary jobs or studies. Since its inception, hundreds of people have participated in actions across the country. The movement is run by a group of about 10 people who work full or part-time and receive a small allowance for living expenses.

"What we have in common is that we are fed up with the lack of action from the government in the climate collapse we are in.

That is why we are engaging in peaceful civil resistance.

What is the reason for this?

We do so because the disruption is bringing much-needed attention to climate collapse. We recognise that we need to sacrifice to demonstrate the seriousness and bring about change.

We are facing the greatest period of human suffering and injustice in history. We all know what the warming of our planet will lead to. We are hurtling towards a future of heat, drought, food shortages and mass migration, where people's living conditions will be brutally disrupted right under their feet. Societies will collapse and violence will follow in its wake. Humanity will have to fight for its survival in ways that cannot even be imagined.

Restored wetlands have the potential to reduce Sweden's emissions by 25%. It is a scandal that politicians are not taking action that would quickly reduce carbon emissions, increase biodiversity, prevent flooding and improve access to drinking water in a Sweden in climate crisis. We can no longer rely on our politicians. We have to do the job ourselves and we have to create a real democracy ourselves.

We have to move rapidly.
What we do over the next three to four years, I believe, is going to determine the future of humanity.

We must understand the scale of the climate crisis and choose

Will we be bystanders and complicit in the greatest crime in human history?

Or will we resist so that we can look future generations in the eye?

And whether we succeed or fail, be able to say that we did all we ever could?

  • We will be fearless.
  • We will create a network founded in love, courage and community.

A22 Network

A22 Network - The international resistance movement in civil disobedience for a habitable planet.

This network of civil resistance movements is called the A22 Network and Återställ Våtmarker is since May 2022 officially part of it.
The movements are closely linked to each other and are supported by people like NASA scientist Peter Kalmus, Don't Look Up director Adam McKay, and scientist and activist Noam Chomsky.
