Now let’s get rid of Neova.

From Grimsås.
From Sweden.

Between 25 July and 8 August, we will be staging a protest at Grimsås Moor.

Aktivister i aktion på mossen

The ground is shaking beneath the fossil fuel giant Neova. The County Administrative Board recently announced its decision: Neova is not permitted to extract peat for cultivation from Grimsås bog.

Despite this, they continue to ravage, dig up and sabotage nature, the climate and our future. They carry on with their dirty business whilst the residents of Grimsås, we and YOU pay the price in the form of increased emissions, a ruined natural environment and even more profit for the disgustingly rich fossil fuel industry.

Join us in stopping Neova’s death machines this summer.

Stand in their way, chain yourself to them, glue yourself to them, climb on top of them! Every scoop they take is an illegal scoop!

Sign up today and you’ll receive more information later on.

Let’s put this action into context

What has happened at Grimsås Moor?

2024

  • Restore Wetlands is launching a campaign to stop peat extraction in Grimsås.
  • The Finnish government receives €465.7 million (SEK 5 billion) in EU funding to phase out peat extraction in Finland but continues to extract peat from over 60 bogs in Sweden, including in Grimsås.

2025

  • The Environmental Objectives Committee proposes a ban on peat extraction as a means of reducing Sweden’s carbon dioxide emissions.
  • The Swedish government appoints the Cultivated Peat Inquiry. The expert group includes the lobby organisation Svensk Torv but no research representatives.

2026

  • The Cultivation Peat Inquiry fails to propose any measures to reduce emissions from peat extraction and is criticised for downplaying the emissions caused by peat extraction.
  • The County Administrative Board rejects Neova’s application to amend the agreement for Grimsås bog from energy peat extraction to cultivation peat extraction. Neova appeals the decision and continues to ravage the bog.
(Neova currently has no legal right to extract horticultural peat, but they do so anyway because they must break up the horticultural peat to access the energy peat lying at a depth of more than one metre.)
  • Restore Wetlands is holding Sweden’s first disobedient referendum on peat extraction in Sweden. Of approximately 10,000 votes, 97% are in favour of a ban on peat extraction.

Understand how it works

Practical information about the campaigns

This is our third year visiting Grimsås, so we’ve got everything sorted when it comes to accommodation, cooking, toilets and socialising. The more comfortable we are away from the bog, the more we can put up with being on the bog. More information and a packing list will be sent to everyone who has signed up!

Where we’ll be staying

We’ll be staying in our own tents near the bog. There are lovely, soft and shaded spots where you can pitch your tent so you can sleep well.

What we eat

We’ll eat together in the community hall, which we’re borrowing from Grimsås’s fantastic locals. We’ll take turns cooking. Everything is vegan.
Do you have any allergies? Let us know and we’ll sort it out!

Toilets and showers

Toilets are available in the community centre. We have access to showers and a sauna a short walk away.

At the peat bog

We spend a lot of time at the peat bog.
It’s a terrible place in many ways, but it’s fantastic to feel that you’re exactly where you need to be to bring about change.
We walk everywhere and the distances are sometimes long, so you’ll need good shoes.
